BrumbeeTM: A Motor Vehicle Revolution – 100 Years in the Making

(In the footsteps of Ferdinand Porsche)

The futuristic possibilities of electric motors are being reinvigorated across the transport industry as a reaction to renewed calls for sustainable and renewable sources of energy. Yet, electric vehicles are not just an invention of the 21st century.

Over 100 years ago, Ferdinand Porsche unveiled the very first hybrid electric vehicle. With a large bank of lead-acid batteries, a small petrol motor for recharging, and four hub motors – one in each wheel – the car was a revolutionary achievement with quicker speeds and faster acceleration than any petrol vehicle of its time. Individual hub motors have a range of benefits: a lower centre of gravity making for more stable vehicles; they remove motor, gearbox and differential from within the vehicle; and they provide 4WD without any transmission components. The problem: Porsche could not solve the cornering and handling issues that comes with four individual motors interacting across varied surfaces.

Then, Electric vehicles were dealt a fatal blow in 1908 when the Model-T Ford was released. It had benefits of both cost and range that could not be matched by electric vehicles at the time.

However, the engineers at Brumbee™ saw the value of hub motors and recognised that by controlling each commutation of each motor, it was possible to respond to pavement changes within a few milliseconds. They developed patented algorithms to enable these in-wheel behavioural changes, allowing them to break through the problems faced by earlier hub motor designs.

Brumbee™ is the first in-wheel electric vehicle technology to stabilise differences in driving force and slip when each wheel simultaneously encounters different types of surfaces. Using advanced embedded microcontroller technology and these patented algorithms, each wheel makes its own decisions about speed and driving force, and makes adjustments so quickly that the driver and passengers are unaware of any issues. Field testing has proven exceptional roadholding and handling.

Brumbee™ technology has applications well beyond its initial application as a resort vehicle. With no motor, gearbox and differential, this technology permits ultimate design freedom for vehicle designers and any type of small vehicle.

  1. Greetings, I do think your web site may be having browser compatibility issues.
When I take a look at your site in Safari, it
looks fine however, when opening in I.E., it has
some overlapping issues. I simply wanted to provide you with a quick heads up!
    Other than that, fantastic site!

    1. Thanks for the compliment.
The site has been tested and works properly on Chrome, Safari, Edge for both PC and at least 4 smartphones.
IE isn’t being maintained and has been replaced by Edge.
